Updated March 2012:
National Toxicology Program (NTP) Workshop on the Role of Environmental Chemicals in the Development of Diabetes and Obesity
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) held a workshop to review the evidence that some environmental chemicals may contribute to diabetes and obesity. The literature review documents, breakout group discussions, and additional resources are available at the website: http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go/36433. The documents will be published in 2011 as an NTP Monograph.
Diabetes and the Environment Website
Working Group Coordinator Sarah Howard has created this website exploring the relationships between diabetes and various environmental factors. It summarizes the relevant scientific studies on chemicals that may affect the development of diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, autoimmunity, and insulin resistance, with links to the source articles: www.diabetesandenvironment.org.
There is also a list of articles in the popular press on chemicals and diabetes and related conditions at http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org/home/further-reading.
