CHE Partners on why they value our work

Note about CDC budget cuts from CHE Partner, Shelley Hearne, Dr.P.H.
Trust for America's Health - 8 February 2006

I just wanted to get the detailed word out ASAP about the extensive budget cuts being proposed at CDC. CDC programs are being hit by more than four percent from FY 2006, and nearly eight percent when compared to the FY 2005 funding levels. Some programs that would receive cuts include obesity prevention, birth defects prevention, environmental health, and injury prevention and control.

For environmental health, this includes health tracking, biomonitoring and an elimination of the ALS registry funding. Birth defects and developmental disabilities is at a 12% cut. We’ll share more info as it evolves, but we’re anticipating some big fights in the near future to turn this around – please see our budget website for more related details (http://healthyamericans.org/reports/budget06/). 7 February 2006
