Policies Championed by CHE Partners


 

    •     LD 1790, An Act to Reduce Contamination of Breast Milk and the Environment  from the Release of Brominated Chemicals in Consumer Products.


    •     Ordinances and resolutions banning the manufacture, sale, and distribution of mercury-containing devices.


    •     Legislative alerts regarding Toxic Flame Retardants (PBDEs) and other persistent chemicals.

    •     Consensus Statement on Methylmercury and Public Health, this is a collaborative effort underway by many CHE Partner and non-partner organizations, including Physicians for Social Responsibility, American Public Health Association, Children’s Environmental Health Network, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Nurses Association, Association of Reproductive Health Professionals and the National Association of City and County Health Officials, who are concerned about mercury policy in the United States. They have developed a Consensus Statement on Methylmercury and Public Health that calls for immediate actions to  protect the general public and vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children, through stronger regulations to curb mercury emissions at their source, and through improved fish consumption guidance to reduce exposures.
